Bird Key is the year-round home of The SRQ Duo. It is an island in Sarasota Bay, south of the Ringling Causeway, between mainland Sarasota and St. Armand’s. Originally a small island connected to the Ringling Causeway by a tree-lined causeway of its own, it was the home of John Ringling North, nephew of circus magnate, John Ringling. Created by dredge and fill in the late 1950s, it is approximately 250 acres and one of the most prestigious residential areas on Florida's West Coast.
It was named Bird Key because of the large population of birds that flocked to the original island; each of the esteemed streets is named after one of Florida’s many migrating birds.
Today Bird Key is strictly residential (Bird Key Homes and Bird Key Houses), with the exception of the Bird Key Yacht Club. The Yacht Club has a little more than 300 current members, a third of whom reside on Bird Key. It offers boating and docking privileges, multiple dining and beverage options, a pool, tennis
courts, banquet facilities, exercise room, and other amenities. The Club recently underwent renovations in 2015. For more information on the Bird Key Yacht Club please click here.
Bird Key is fully developed with homes for sale on Bird Key and Bird Key real estate, save a handful of lots that are privately owned. There are a little more than 500 homes, with the majority having bay or canal access. It is truly a boaters dream. While the real estate architecture varies like a time-lapse from the 1960s to today, the real treat about residing on Bird Key is the beautiful drive home. From atop the bridge to your own driveway, striking sunsets, glistening water, and tropical landscape views lavishly welcome you home again. If loving where you live is what you value most, it’s time you call Bird Key home.
